The Learn Drive Survive® Safer Drivers Course is a defensive driving course in Toronto for NSW learner drivers. The course has been designed to help build awareness surrounding safe driving habits for learner drivers between 16 and 25.

Being a safe driver and having the confidence, knowledge and skillset, is paramount. It’s important to gain as much driving experience in all conditions both day and night.

Learners are assisted and guided by their supervisors which often protects them from harm or experiencing the consequences that come with choice. NSW learner drivers are taught the techniques and strategies that help minimise unnecessary risk taking and distractions.

Why Should Learners Do the Safer Drivers Course?

For many learners, once they pass the Hazard Perception Test (HPT) and have successfully passed the NSW driving test, their chances of being involved in a crash increases 20 to 30 times. Statistically, that risk commences the moment they get their P’s and become a solo driver.

According to NSW crash data, young drivers aged between 17 and 25, made up almost 20% of fatalities in 2016 in the state of New South Wales. In fact, within the first six (6) months of getting their P’s and driving solo, drivers aged between 17 and 25 are unfortunately at the highest risk of crashing.

Experience only comes with time, repetition and on-going driving. All learner drivers are encouraged to complete the 20 hour driver safety course in Toronto with Learn Drive Survive® in order to help build safer driving skills. Learners will be taught defensive driving techniques for on-going practice and driving skills development.

What Will Learners Get Out of the Safer Drivers Course?

The course is delivered by local experienced trainers and comprises of two (2) components - Module 1 (classroom) and Module 2 (in-vehicle). Module 1 is a theory session which is conducted by an experienced facilitator. During this time, learners will identify external and internal influences that can affect their driving including strategies for better decision making and safer driving practices.

Module 2 is a two (2) hour practical coaching session with two (2) students and a coach (driving instructor) in the vehicle. During this session, learners will explore the content they covered in Module 1 and focus on everyday defensive driving skills. Each driver will be taught how to effectively identify and manage risks as well as other low-risk driving strategies to help keep them safe on the road.

In accordance with Transport for NSW requirements, the Toronto Safer Drivers Course only permits a maximum of twelve (12) students. This is to ensure learners don’t feel over-whelmed and can comfortably educate themselves about the importance of road safety.

The course is only 5 hours duration. Upon successful completion of both modules, learners will receive 20 hours in their learner logbooks.

Although the course is not mandatory, Learn Drive Survive® believe that making our roads safer through safe driving initiatives such as the Toronto Safer Drivers Course, will help reduce the road toll involving young in-experienced drivers and will continue to promote road safety.
